Biography

Dr. Knopp leads Ahura’s engineering department. Prior to founding Ahura Corporation, Dr. Knopp was the Manager of VCSEL Development for CoreTek/Nortel Networks. In this capacity, he held responsibilities for next generation high-power tunable VCSEL products. Dr. Knopp received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Boston University, in 1994 and M.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees in optics from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Dr. Knopp has published numerous articles in refereed journals, has presented invited-talks and post deadline papers on MEMs-tunable lasers, and has served on panel discussions of tunable-laser technology. He has several pending U.S. patents, is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA), IEEE Laser and Electro-Optics Society (LEOS), Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE), and Boston University Industrial Advisory Board.
